About the cooking blog...

We enjoy a good meal. 99 out of 100 times, this good meal takes place in our kitchen. We don't eat out very often, and when we do, we're rarely "wow-ed" by the food we get. The following are recipes that have passed through our kitchen. They're not always winners, but we'll tell you if they're not, and what should be changed to make them better. Enjoy!

Apple Pie for a snowy day

Today, Aaron requested that I use up some of our pre-made pie crust and make a pie. Since we are still snowed in, the only pie-type ingredients available were apples. So we made an apple pie.

To start you have to peel, core, and chop your apples. Once you are through with that part, you mix in all the yummy ingredients:

1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 1 table spoon corn starch (or thickener).

Then, it looks like this:

Then you scoop it all up and put it in the pie crust. I sprinkled mine with a little bit of orange liquor and dotted it with butter.

Then you cover the top with a second pie crust. Fold up the edges, brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar, and it will look like this:

Put it in the oven for about 50 minutes at 350 and ta da!

It was delicious.
